Drupal 7, 8 & 9 to Drupal 10. What’s in store?
Upgrading from Drupal 7, 8 or 9 to Drupal 10. What’s in store?
Drupal 10 is due to be released in December 2022. So what’s in store for those migrating from Drupal 7, 8 or 9? Will it have as many head scratching moments as the move from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 you may be asking? By the looks of things it will be much easier. Good reason to be thinking of how you plan that transition to Drupal 10 now.
Get ready to upgrade to Drupal 10
Drupal 9 was formally released in June 2020. So what does this mean for you if your website is currently built on Drupal 7 or 8? Drupal 8 reached end of life on 21 November 2021, and should be upgraded to Drupal 9 or 10 (when released) as a matter of urgency now. Drupal have extended support of Drupal 7 until 2022. But of course the closer you edge towards these dates, the higher the risk becomes you could meet with capacity issues. It’s best to jump early, and have a plan in place. Upgrading to Drupal 9 means your site remains fully supported with security reassuringly up to date and the transition to Drupal 10 should be as easy form the upgrade from Drupal 8 to Drupal 9.
The upgrade from Drupal 8 to Drupal 9 is much easier than Drupal 7 to Drupal 8. (Collective sigh of relief from developers the world over!). What that means is that if you have a medium to large scale site there’s nothing to be afraid of in terms of getting stuck into changing over to Drupal 9 with a view to upgrade to Drupal 10 in 2023.
